McGowan: Chemistry Lecture
Summerville, Mondays 10am
Grades: 10-12th grades
Instructor: Mrs. Leslie McGowan
Email: lesliemcgowan44@gmail.com
Monthly cost: $43
Materials fee: $25
Pre-requisites: C avg in Algebra I, and successful completion of a high school science class such as Biology, Physical Science, and or Physics.
Required for parent to purchase: Discovering Design With Chemistry by Dr. Jay Wile, 3 ring binder with dividers and pockets, scientific calculator, pencils and pens (blue or black ink only).
Course description:
Chemistry is everywhere and in everything: your cell phone, your body, your clothing, your favorite drink or food. The roots of chemistry can be traced back all the way to the fifth century when a Greek philosopher, Democritus, hypothesized everything was made up of atomos. In the 1600s a physicist by the name of Robert Boyle coined the term elements and hypothesized the world was made up of them. In the 1800s scientists began to discover that an atom is composed of protons, neutrons and electrons. The basis of chemistry lies in how atoms react with each other, specifically how their electrons interact.
My goal is to help the students go beyond just reading the material in the book and regurgitating formulas and concepts in order to pass a test. I want them to understand the concepts and see how and why they are important. Many of the concepts require practice to master and appreciate. Successful completion of this course will set them up to succeed in the freshmen chemistry courses offered at their college of choice. It will also benefit their performance and understanding in the lab component of this course.
I create and grade all assessments given. They will have homework beyond the questions in the book to do on occasion which will reinforce the concepts they are learning. The tests are sent home for them to take. The midterm and final will be given in class.

Instructor: Craig Premo
Email address: craigpremo@sheep.education
Monthly Cost: $43

Supply and Textbook Requirements:
Understanding the Times (9th-12th) prepares young believers to defend a Christian worldview against other belief systems. This curriculum is designed to help high school students clearly understand the tenets of the Christian worldview, and how they compare to that of the leading humanistic worldviews of our day. Students will learn how to apply their Christian faith to every area of life: theology, philosophy, ethics, biology, sociology, psychology, law, politics, economics, and history. Some of the issues covered include abortion, apologetics, cults, evolution, feminism, homosexuality, naturalism, moral relativism, pluralism, relationships, socialism, and many more. By the end of this course, the student will become self-aware of their own personal worldview, as well as properly articulate all facets of their Christian faith. They will be fully equipped to apologetically defend the truths of the Gospel, and battle against the vain, fruitless teachings of worldly philosophy. The topics discussed are challenging, and the confidence in Christ they will gain is invaluable as we will all seek to cement our trust in Christ as the only solid foundation on which we stand.
Different Every Year! This course keeps the central focus of developing a student’s biblical worldview at its core, but its material will change each semester to cover different themes. This means that new students will always be welcome, but this class is also open to returning students to continue developing their faith, arming themselves with more tools in their toolbelt to combat our culture. It is divided as such:

Stauffer: Intermediate Musical Theatre
Northwoods, Friday 8:45am
Grades: 6-9 grade
Instructor: Jenny Stauffer/Sarah Daniel
Email: sheepmusicaltheatre@gmail.com
Monthly Cost: $43
Materials Fee: $40
Supply Requirements: There will be a minimal fee to cover the cost of each actor’s costume. At show time, tickets will be $5. T-shirts will be an optional purchase.
Course Description:
Do you enjoy acting, singing, and performing? Are you ready to take your skills to the next level as you prepare for high school? The Intermediate Musical Theatre class is a performance based course in which students will spend the year preparing to produce Aladdin JR, a Broadway Junior Musical, while focusing on honing performance skills and growing as actors. We will rehearse on Fridays from 8:45am - 10:45am at Northwood Baptist Church. Auditions will be required and will take place in August prior to the start of the semester. Each student must present a one minute monologue as well as a song from a musical. Students must use accompaniment for their song.
Rehearsal time is valuable. Because it is our aim to produce a show of the highest caliber, the class will require commitment and participation from student and parent. Please plan to be at every rehearsal as every actor plays an important part in creating the whole show. Students and parents will be asked to sign a commitment form and join the official Facebook group for the class. There might be extra Saturday rehearsals scheduled. Performances will be in April 2024.
You MUST get special permission to register for musical theatre classes! Please email Jenny Stauffer at sheepmusicaltheatre@gmail.com for interest and questions. Registration information will be sent privately to those who get a slot. Don’t wait…these classes fill up quickly!
There are now similar local programs available, and we need to emphasize the commitment level required for SHEEP’s year-long performance-based theatre group. Students and parents - whether elementary, junior, intermediate or high school - need to recognize and understand the requirement to refrain from committing to another non-SHEEP full-year performance-based theatre group. This keeps us all from scheduling conflicts in the spring, allows more students to participate in local homeschool theatre groups, and reflects our overall desire to have excellent theatre productions. We encourage each family to pray about participation and follow God’s leading in making this decision. Thank you for understanding. We are happy to answer any questions (sheepmusicaltheatre@gmail.com).

Each student will present a monologue and a song from a musical. Students will use accompaniment for their song.
Rehearsal time is valuable. Because it is our aim to produce a show of the highest caliber, the class will require commitment and participation from student and parent. Please plan to be at every rehearsal, as every actor plays an important part in creating the whole show. Students and parents will be asked to sign a commitment form and join the official Facebook group for the class. There will be extra Saturday rehearsals throughout the year. Performances will be in May 2024.
