Course Description: Storybook class will explore the wonderful, exciting world of children’s literature!! Each class period will be a theme-based fifty minutes of reading, discussion, and activity. No one is ever too old for a delightful picture book! We will meet new friends and learn about amazing things along the way! Some of the topics we will explore are: seasons, holidays, community helpers, animals, pets, friends, and family, along with several well known children’s authors: Eric Carle, Kevin Henkes, Rosemary Wells, and many others. Course Description: Every child needs an introduction to music. Musical education brings alive parts of the brain that no other education can. Taught by Amy King, this music in motion experience is a beginner music course emphasizing having fun with music. Students will learn about music, rhythm and musical patterns. Most songs will have a lot of motions and hand movements. Children will learn patterns with rhythm sticks. Students will be encouraged to move with the music, but also will be taught how to sit still while singing. Classical music will be introduced in a creative way. This is a very active class. We march and jump and play rhythm sticks. In nice weather we often go outside to move. Children will perform at the SHEEP Christmas and and also in the End of Year program. Class description: This course is designed to teach preschoolers the basics of crafting and art. The goal is to teach hand and eye coordination by using scissors, glue, and crayons while also exploring other fun mediums such as watercolors, fingerpaints, and clay. In the first semester, we practice cutting specific shapes (mostly squares, circles, and sometimes triangles) for our projects! Then in the 2nd semester, we start trying other fun projects with painting, layering, and a little bit of sculpting! Our art projects are frequently themed around nature, the seasons, and classic children's books. Course Description: This course is for the beginner student who has a love for music and an eagerness to learn how to read and play music. Students will learn to read music, including: note names & locations on the staff, note & rest values, dynamics, and so much more. Students will learn to find the beat of a given piece of music by using their body to feel and keep the beat. We will also learn to play simple childhood songs and Christian hymns using handbells, resonator bells, and BoomWhackers. (Please investigate these awesome musical instruments. There are many great videos on YouTube.)
Students will also have the opportunity to make some fun, homemade musical crafts. Idealy, these will be completed in class and taken home the same day. There will be homework of a simple worksheet or two, practicing beats, reading notes, etc. Music cannot be learned in a one day a week setting, but can be learned and enjoyed with even a minimum of 10 minutes of practice every day or two. This can be done anywhere and does not have to be done in a formal setting. Practice should be fun!
My goal is to nurture the love of music your child has and take it to a new level of appreciating the technical part of music and turning it into an ability to read and make music as a group. This class will focus on parts of speech, grammar and vocabulary, formal writing, reading comprehension, and research methods. We will cover fiction and nonfiction, poetry, drama, short stories, and novels. In addition to writing assignments and a final project we will watch Pygmalion (1938) and clips from multiple productions of Much Ado About Nothing.

Course Description: This class is the equivalent of an 11th grade high school English credit. Students will complete a rigorous study of American Literature from the 1600’s to modern times. We will watch The Great Gatsby and Raisin in the Sun in class as we read the novel. Students will complete a number of works—short stories, essays, poems, plays and novels-- chronologically with a focus on the authors and the historical period in which the work was written or takes place. Each unit will be based on a time period, and the history of that time will be investigated. The literature will be looked at in relation to the time period. Students will complete several writing assignments and projects. I will provide poetry, short stories and essays. Each week, I will give students a week’s worth of assignments. Course Description: The lab grade counts 1/3 of the overall Biology grade; tests and other at-home work make up the remaining 2/3 of the course grade. Students will be graded on weekly lab reports, quizzes, occasional formal lab reports, maintaining a neat lab notebook, and two major projects: a cell model due before Christmas break and a collection – identification project due the week after Spring break. Projects must be turned in by the due date even if student is absent. Detailed instructions for all assignments will be given in class. Absences are excused only with an email from parent within 24 hours of missed class. Late assignments will drop 1 letter grade; no late assignments accepted after 1 week.
