Course Description: Do you enjoy acting, singing, and performing? The Junior Musical Theatre class is a performance based course in which students will spend the year preparing to produce FINDING NEMO, JR, a Broadway Junior Musical, while focusing on honing their performance skills and growing as actors. We will rehearse on Thursdays at 8:30-9:50 for the AM class or 1:10-2:30 for the PM class. Auditions will be required and will take place either before classes begin or on the first day of class. Each student must present a one minute monologue as well as a song from a musical.
Rehearsal time is valuable. Because it is our aim to produce a show of the highest caliber, the class will require commitment and participation from student and parent. In the spring, several rehearsals will be moved to the performance venue, Northwood Baptist Church. Please plan to be at every rehearsal as every actor plays an important part in creating the whole show. Parents will be asked to join the official Facebook group for the class. There will be at least one extra Saturday rehearsal in the spring that will be mandatory. Performances will be in April 2023.
You MUST get special permission to register for musical theatre classes! Please email Jenny Stauffer at sheepmusicaltheatre@gmail.com for interest and questions. Registration information will be sent privately to those who get a slot. Don’t wait…these classes fill up quickly!
There are now similar local programs available, and we need to emphasize the commitment level required for SHEEP’s year-long performance-based theatre group. Students and parents - whether elementary, junior, intermediate or high school - need to recognize and understand the requirement to refrain from committing to another non-SHEEP full-year performance-based theatre group. This keeps us all from scheduling conflicts in the spring, allows more students to participate in local homeschool theatre groups, and reflects our overall desire to have excellent theatre productions. We encourage each family to pray about participation and follow God’s leading in making this decision. Thank you for understanding. We are happy to answer any questions (sheepmusicaltheatre@gmail.com).
