Course description:
Come join us as we take a walk through history as seen through the eyes of young girls in the American Girls literature series. We will discover more about the time periods that are written, make a lapbook for each book series that we study, have hands on crafts and games, and celebrate the finish of each book series with a tea party. We will give parents notice in advance. The students will need to have a copy of each of the books listed for participation in class, scissors, glue sticks, and a set of colored pencils!
In Year 1 the books we will study are (please note that these are different from last year) :
Felicity Merriman (books 1-6: Meet Felicity, Felicity Learns a Lesson, Felicity's Surprise, Happy Birthday, Felicity!, Felicity Saves the Day, Changes For Felicity)
Josefina Montoya (books 1-6: Meet Josefina, Josefina Learns a Lesson, Josefina's Surprise, Happy Birthday, Josefina!, Josefina Saves the Day, Changes For Josefina)
Kirsten Larson (books 1-6: Meet Kirsten, Kirsten Learns a Lesson, Kirsten's Surprise, Happy Birthday, Kirsten!, Kirsten Saves the Day, Changes For Kirsten)
The student must have access to these books outside of class either by purchasing them or borrowing from the library as reading at home is required. It is the parents responsibility to have each book set as it is being covered. We will be covering a total of 18 books during this school year.
Please note that these are not the “BeForever” line of books that’s now being sold on the American Girl website. You can find the original book series on Amazon.com, Half.com, or at many of the great local used book stores and occassionally on the SHEEP facebook page or LCHEA pages. They can also found at the local library and Audible.com has them available for download to listen to.
