Who is ready to learn about Physics and Chemistry, including Newton’s Laws (What’s all this gravity stuff about, anyway??), energy, force, light, chemical reactions, the Periodic Table, and much more? Experiments? Yes! Fun? Yes! Fire? Maybe! We will do all this, and more, in Rainbow Science, Year 1.
What is Rainbow Science? Rainbow Science is a 2 year, comprehensive science curriculum. Year 1 focuses on physics and chemistry, and Year 2 focuses on biology and a variety of applied science. Rainbow Science covers foundations of General Science, Earth Science, Life Science and Physical Science. The concise and easy to understand text is packed with lovely multi-color photographs and is written by an experienced teacher and homeschooling father. This curriculum will help students not only understand science, but also help prepare them for higher level high school sciences.
Our class time at SHEEP will focus on lab work. Work at home between class meetings will require students to do reading in the textbook and the exercises at the end of the reading sections in the text. Quizzes are also available at the publisher’s website for parents to administer at home if they choose. This is a great program with labs that are interesting and fun, and a text that is written in a clear, concise, and sometimes humorous manner. Textbook: When you purchase the textbook, The Rainbow, by Durrell Dobbins, PhD, you are purchasing a text that will be used both years. If you have already taken one year of Rainbow Science, you do not need to purchase another textbook. I often have extra used copies if you have need.
Materials fees: Materials fees cover all the supplies needed for every lab for the entire year, as well as a lab notebook for each student. Students usually work in groups of 2 or 3, so those materials will be shared, but each student will have their own lab notebook.
