Course Description: Come learn about the ocean! This class is intended to be more than a repeat of an aquarium membership. We will dive into more in-depth information about the ocean with hands-on learning of: plate tectonics, ocean topography, bodies of water, currents, tides, how the ocean relates to weather, survival techniques, and more. There are a few special presentations throughout the year including a sea-creature report and we will learn a knot of the month. This class will also incorporate the scientific principles taught in PBS’s educational 1984 series “Voyage of the Mimi.” The premise of this series is a ship taken out to sea by scientists taking a census of humpback whales. Though this series is a bit dated in technology, it is full of great information. I leave it up to each family to discuss their beliefs at home regarding evolution/creation and young/old earth. I will keep in touch through email when sensitive topics arise and am happy to answer any questions.
