Supply Requirements: The Mystery of History Volume II: The Early Church and the Middle Ages by Linda Lacour Hobar (Student Text)
Course Description: Volume 2 of The Mystery of History covers world history from the years of the early church through the Middle Ages which were years of growth and change for both the world and the church. The Mystery of History, Volume II presents the years 33 A.D. - 1456 through Christ-centered lens, exploring the backdrop to and significance of major cultural and historical people and events, alongside these events in the history of Christianity. Some include Pentecost, Paul, Pompeii, St. Valentine, St. Patrick, King Arthur and the Knights at the Round Table, the Vikings, Eric the Red, Leif Ericsson, Robin Hood, St. Francis of Assisi, Marco Polo, Black Death, The Canterbury Tales, Joan of Arc, the Printing Press and more!
Students are required to read three lessons per week, and be prepared to discuss them in class. The children will enjoy hands on history as we bring these events to life - sometimes tasting food from that country/culture, acting out the events, playing games, crafts and more! This class is structured to fit all ages and allows the parents to decide how lightly or deeply to go into each lesson. All pretests, tests and exercises (worksheets) are up to the parent to give and grade, if desired. The goal of this class is to help children find a love of history, not by listing the facts and memorizing the dates, but understanding what happened and why it is important. It is not necessary to complete Volume I before Volume II.
