Course Description: We all experience conflict—at every age and stage of life. Some of us choose to try to avoid it. Some of us go on the attack, get angry, and explode. Some of us are able to work it out. But what is God’s plan for handling conflict? This is the question we will answer as we seek to become peacemakers. This class is built around the book The Young Peacemaker by Corlette Sande. The Young Peacemaker teaches children how to prevent and resolve conflict in a constructive and biblically faithful manner. We will emphasize the principles of confession, forgiveness, communication, and character development. Some of the questions we will answer include: What is at the heart of conflict? Is it possible to honor God in conflict? How can you take responsibility for your part in a conflict? How can we mend relationships after conflict?
The goal in this class will be for your children to learn to better understand conflict, to respond to conflict in a biblical, God honoring way, and to learn practical ways to prevent conflict. There will be opportunities for scripture memorization, writing and acting out skits dealing with specific conflict situations, fun games and activities with real life applications, and thoughtful discussion. Let’s learn how to be peacemakers! “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” –Romans 12:18
