Course Description: We all experience conflict—at every age and stage of life. Some of us choose to try to avoid it. Some of us go on the attack, get angry, and explode. Some of us are able to work it out. But what is God’s plan for handling conflict? This is the question we will answer as we seek to become peacemakers. This class is built around the book The Young Peacemaker by Corlette Sande. The Young Peacemaker teaches children how to prevent and resolve conflict in a constructive and biblically faithful manner. We will emphasize the principles of confession, forgiveness, communication, and character development. Some of the questions we will answer include: What is at the heart of conflict? Is it possible to honor God in conflict? How can you take responsibility for your part in a conflict? How can we mend relationships after conflict?
The goal in this class will be for your children to learn to better understand conflict, to respond to conflict in a biblical, God honoring way, and to learn practical ways to prevent conflict. There will be opportunities for scripture memorization, writing and acting out skits dealing with specific conflict situations, fun games and activities with real life applications, and thoughtful discussion. There is no textbook required for this class. The majority of your materials fees cover the cost of reproducing the student activity booklets students will receive with each new lesson. These booklets include a cartoon/comic version of the story from each lesson, diagrams that visually reinforce key points, and activities and personal applications that students can work on at home during the week to further reinforce the lesson.
