New parents to level A are required to attend the SHEEP class with their child to be trained in the method (Younger siblings might be able to use the nursery.) This is a core class, not an extracurricular class, so it requires weekly homework completion! Assignments are given four days each week, and should take 45-60 minutes each day. PLACEMENT-Contact the teacher for evaluation BEFORE REGISTERING. Placement is based on skill level and grade.
Most educators today teach reading first and expect that if a person reads a word often enough he will learn to spell it. Experience does not support that theory. Furthermore, “Researchers note that in nine cases out of ten the most glaring handicap or deficiency of entering college freshmen is in spelling” (Sanseri, p10). Spelling is the more precise skill and reading is a natural outgrowth of spelling instruction. We present the language in a way that has few exceptions and students are taught how to analyze the reasons behind a word’s spelling and pronunciation. This program addresses reading fluency issues and the often resulting reading comprehension problems. All levels use the same phonograms, spelling rules, and multi-sensory methods but the application level will differ with each class. **Foundations classes satisfy elementary language arts needs for your student to include derivatives, Greek & Latin roots, grammar, and sentence composition. Please do not use another reading/phonics program on top of Foundations workload!
Level A is for beginning or non-readers.
Level B & C is for older students who are already reading & spelling.
