Instructor: Mrs. Leslie McGowan
Monthly cost: 35.00
Materials fee: 11.00
Pre-requisites: C avg in Algebra I
Supplies and book: Discovering Design With Chemistry by Dr. Jay Wile, 3 ring binder with dividers and pockets, scientific calculator, pencils and pens (blue or black ink only).
This is a lecture course covering topics in classification of matter, atomic structure, chemical bonding, molecular geometry, physical/chemical change, stoichiometry, solutions, ideal gases, acid/base chemistry, thermodynamics, chemical equilibrium, oxidation/reduction reactions and kinetics. Most concepts require knowing how to apply and use algebraic manipulation. We will cover the highlights of each chapter, go over the comprehension check and review problems and any other questions students encounter. Students are required to read the chapter outside of class and complete the assigned work. Tests will be created and graded by the instructor and administered by a parent. There will be at least one project assigned. This class counts for part of your overall chemistry grade. The lab component will need to be factored in for a complete grade.
