This class is a logical next class for students who took IEW Following Narnia: The Lion’s Song last year. However, since I am teaching this curriculum at two different class times, there will be room for new students. If you have a middle school student who has never taken IEW before, this can also be a great place for students to start formal writing instruction if their parents are committed to helping them at home. I will help you learn how to do this, parents! My fifty minutes of weekly instruction will get your students started, but your input is vital. Writing, like any skill, requires practice and consistent instruction. Slow and steady wins the race!
Parents are expected to help their students with their weekly homework and edit the student rough drafts. Consistent parental involvement and communication with me are extremely important for students to make progress in their writing skills in this class.
Supplies: 1” 3-ring binder, with 4 separate tabs for Current Work, Completed Work, Resources, and Paper
I prefer students use pens in class because they write more easily and require less pressure….and they rarely break.
Course description: Students will develop their skill with the Structure and Style Writing Method while learning about interesting, important people and events in U.S. history from the explorers to the twentieth century. An optional literature component studies six novels that integrate with the historical topics used for writing assignments. We will not cover the novels in class.
