So you have the basics and some openings but are wanting to work on your end game strategies? Learn to play the endgame to win! Prepare for the most common endgames of chess. Learn how to checkmate and avoid stalemate. Learn Endgame Strategies: “walk your Rooks,” “stay in the square,” “use the waiting move,” ”cut off the board,”and “win with the opposition.” In Chess Tactics 1, Coach Steve Schneider presents the most common tactics that every player needs to know, from finding and exploiting “free” pieces to checkmates with all of the pieces. The class will be periodically sent home with thought-provoking logic puzzles from the book Logic on the Chessboard. It is divided into 5 sections, each representing a focused problem-solving challenge. With one, two, three steps or more — the puzzles and problems apply, test and improve strategic and higher level thinking skills. You don’t have to be a chess player to tackle them. Some of these puzzles will improve chess play, but all of them improve students’ abilities to focus, visualize, think ahead, weigh options, analyze concretely and think abstractly.
Materials fee: The reusable workbooks are copyrighted but you can make copies within your own family. Each chess class will receive 2 levels of workbooks that siblings share.
