Course Description: This course is for the beginner student who has a love for music and an eagerness to learn how to read and play music. Students will learn to read music, including, but not limited to: note names & locations on the staff, note & rest values, rhythms, dynamics, and so much more. Students will learn how to find the beat of a given piece of music by feeling the beat and clapping, snapping, and tapping their foot to keep the music’s beat. We will also learn how to play simple childhood songs and Christian hymns/music using children's handbells and the BoomWhacker instrument. (Please feel free to investigate these awesome musical instruments. There are many great videos on YouTube.)
Students will also have the opportunity to make some fun, homemade musical crafts. Idealy, these will be completed in class and taken home the same day.
There will be homework in this course of a simple worksheet or two, practicing beats of music, etc. Music cannot be learned in a only one day a week setting, but it can be learned and enjoyed with even a minimum of 10 minutes of practice every other day or two. This can be done in the car and does not have to be done in a formal setting. Practice should be fun!
My goal is to nurture the love of music your child has and take it to a new level that they are able to appreciate the technical part of music and turning it into the ability to read and make music as a group. It is also my goal to take part in the End-Of-Year School Program and perhaps also the Christmas Program. It will be my joy and honor to teach your children what music is all about in theSHEEP school year.
