Course Description: This lab course concentrates on marine wildlife and marine habitats. It provides a survey of members of each biological kingdom that live in marine environments. The student will learn about the microscopic organisms that make life in the ocean possible, including details about their interesting habits and life cycles. This lab course will include experimentation, dissection (Clam, Sea star (starfish), Dogfish shark, Natural sponge and Non-living coral specimen) and microscopy. The lab grade counts for ⅓ of the overall Marine Biology grade. The student’s lab grade will be based on weekly lab reports, quizzes, projects and lab participation. Tests and other “at-home work” are graded by the parent and make up the remaining 2/3 of the overall Marine Biology course grade. Students read the modules at home and parents grade all text work (tests, study guides, etc.). Students are expected to keep up pace with the “at home work” per lab schedule.
