Required Textbook: Master Theory Book 2: Intermediate Theory Workbook, by Charles S. Peter's & Paul Yoder. I will hand these out on the first day of class.
Prerequisites: An eagerness to advance their knowledge of music, which includes already knowing how to read notes on the staff and note values. Students must also be able to read and follow instructions.
Supplies: 2 pencils, a set of erasable colored pencils and a folder with pockets and clasps.
Course Description: This course is for the intermediate student who has a love for music and an eagerness to further their knowledge of reading and playing music. Students will learn how to play scales, recognize sharps and flats, advanced note values, such as the sixteenth note and rest and so much more. Students will learn to find complex beats of a given piece of music by using their body to feel and keep the beat. We will also play songs and Christian hymns using BoomWhackers, handbells, and resonator bells. (Please investigate these awesome musical instruments. There are many great videos on YouTube.)
Students will also have the opportunity to make some fun, homemade musical crafts. Idealy, these will be completed in class and taken home the same day.
There will be homework of a smwithin the Master Theory book, worksheets, practicing beats, reading music, etc. Music cannot be learned in a one day a week setting, but can be learned and enjoyed with even a minimum of 10 minutes of practice every day or two. This can be done anywhere and does not have to be done in a formal setting. Practice should be fun!
My goal is to nurture the love of music your child has and take it to a new level of appreciating the technical part of music and turning it into an ability to make music as a group. It is also my goal to take part in the End-Of-Year School Program and perhaps also the Christmas Program. It will be my joy and honor to teach your children what music is all about this school year.
