This is a new textbook – the 2nd edition will not work for this class
Supplies: 3-ring binder, pencils
Course Description: The lab class will cover the textbook concepts through labs, worksheets, and 2 major projects. One project is due before Christmas Break, and the other is due before Spring Break. Students will have the opportunity to learn to properly collect data during a laboratory experiment and write up scientific experiments. They will be required to keep a neat lab notebook. Assignments are to be turned in even if the student is absent.
Topics will include atoms, molecules, air, water, the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the lithosphere, weather, motion, forces in creation, sound, and light.
The lab grade counts for 30% of the course grade. This grade is not to be used as their overall Physical Science course grade, since it will only reflect work done on the labs, not on reading and tests. Students are to read the modules in the textbook at home on the same schedule as the lab syllabus. Parents are responsible for grading all text work (tests, study guides, on-you-own questions) and textbook progress will be checked at the end of each semester.
