Course Description:
Photography is a great way to apply technical skills in a creative setting! Intro to Photography delves into the contemporary aspects of learning and using a digital SLR camera. Students will navigate through learning how to use their DSLRs (manual, automatic, aperture, and shutter priorities), exposure settings, composition, lighting techniques, basic photography and art theory, color theory to optimize image design, photographing in RAW vs JPEG, and mise en scene (as it relates to still photography). We will be using natural and artificial lights in a mini-studio setting in class. Students will work through a series of projects that develop their technique and eye behind the camera. The class will culminate with students completing a series of images for a final product photography project. Students will apply their skills in full manual settings to reflect their understanding of design, subject, lighting, and composition. We will work towards creating a tangible portfolio as well as digital portfolios!
