Kloxin, O: Middle School Writing - Wonders of Science
Instructor: Olivia Kloxin
Grades: 6-9 (ages 11-13)
Materials Fee: $45
Supply Requirements: 1” 3-ring binder to keep writing work in, something to write with in class, and two pocket folders for turning in assignments. Students must have access to a printer to copy weekly check-lists and to print assignments.
Textbook Requirements: IEW’s Wonders of Science based writing lessons, Student Book. I will purchase this for you with your materials fee. Your student will receive their book at parent orientation or on the first day of class.
Course Description: If you have a middle school student who has never taken IEW before, this can also be a great place for them to start formal writing instruction if parents are committed to helping them at home. However, this class is also well suited to students who have taken a previous IEW class and are looking to hone their writing skills for high school and college. Consistent parental involvement and communication with me are extremely important for students to make progress in their writing skills in this class. Students will write about science-themed topics such as insects, inventions, and famous scientists while they learn to write with Structure and Style.
