Hendrix: Fun With Music
Moncks Corner, Fridays 10am
Grade/Ages: 1st - 5th grade
Instructor: Mrs. Lindsay Hendrix
Email: lindsayhendrix@sheep.education
Monthly Cost: $27
Materials Fee: $35.00
Supply Requirements: 1 folder with clasps, pencils, and a set of erasable colored pencils
Course Description: This course is for the beginner student who has a love for music and an eagerness to learn how to read and play music. Children need to have an eagerness to learn to read and make music. Students also need the ability to read and follow instructions. We will learn to read music, including, but not limited to: note names & their locations on the staff, note & rest values, and so much more. Students will learn how to find the beat of a given piece of music by feeling the beat and clapping, snapping, and tapping their foot to keep the music’s beat. Used in class will be BoomWhackers, handbells, handchimes and resonator bells.
Students will have the opportunity to make some fun, homemade musical crafts. Ideally, these will be completed in class and taken home the same day.
There will be homework each week of worksheets, practicing beats, reading music, etc. Music cannot be learned in a one day a week setting, but can be learned and enjoyed with even a minimum of 10 minutes of practice every day or two. This can be done anywhere and does not have to be done in a formal setting. Practice should be fun!
My goal is to nurture the love of music your child has and take it to a new level of appreciating the technical part of music and turning it into an ability to make music as a group. It will be my joy and honor to teach your children what music is all about this school year.
