This curriculum will help students not only understand science, but also help prepare them for higher level high school sciences.
Our class time at SHEEP will focus on lab work. Work at home between class meetings will require students to do reading in the textbook and the exercises at the end of the reading sections in the text. Quizzes are also available at the publisher’s website for parents to administer at home if they choose. This is a great program with labs that are interesting and fun, and a text that is written in a clear, concise, and sometimes humorous manner. More information about Rainbow Science is available at the publisher’s website: https://www.beginningspublishing.com/rainbow-junior-high-science-curriculum/.
Textbook: When you purchase the textbook, The Rainbow, by Durrell Dobbins, PhD, you are purchasing a text that will be used both years. If you have already taken one year of Rainbow Science, you do not need to purchase another textbook. I often have extra used copies if you have need. Materials fees: Materials fees cover all the supplies needed for every lab for the entire year, as well as a lab notebook for each student. Students usually work in groups of 2 or 3, so those materials will be shared, but each student will have their own lab notebook.

Students will have the opportunity to learn to properly collect data during a laboratory experiment and write up scientific experiments. They will be required to keep a neat lab notebook. Assignments are to be turned in even if the student is absent.
Topics will include atoms, molecules, air, water, the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the lithosphere, weather, motion, forces in creation, sound, and light.
The lab grade counts for 30% of the course grade. This grade is not to be used as their overall Physical Science course grade, since it will only reflect work done on the labs, not on reading and tests. Students are to read the modules in the textbook at home on the same schedule as the lab syllabus. Parents are responsible for grading all text work (tests, study guides, on-you-own questions) and textbook progress will be checked at the end of each semester.

There are now similar local programs available, and we need to emphasize the commitment level required for SHEEP’s year-long performance-based theatre group. Students and parents - whether elementary, junior, intermediate or high school - need to recognize and understand the requirement to refrain from committing to another non-SHEEP full-year performance-based theatre group. This keeps us all from scheduling conflicts in the spring, allows more students to participate in local homeschool theatre groups, and reflects our overall desire to have excellent theatre productions. We encourage each family to pray about participation and follow God’s leading in making this decision. Thank you for understanding. We are happy to answer any questions (sheepmusicaltheatre@gmail.com).
