Course Description: The Pre-Algebra curriculum is set to form a solid foundation upon which to build high school mathematics skills with Abeka’s Pre-Algebra Work-text (Fourth Edition). Course Description:From Adam to Us - Part 2:Castles to Computers. Join us as we discuss the early Renaissance. We will be talking about the 1400s - the 1700s. We will learn about the Age of Revolutions. The students will walk through the Victorian Era and the quest for freedom. They will learn about the mid-twentieth century until present day. The class will learn their lessons through daily lessons written in a narrative style and richly illustrated with color photographs and maps.
Course Objectives: Each unit includes five lessons that look at biographies, landmarks, daily life, "God's Wonders" (natural resources), and "Our World" stories (major events). Students will experience the tragic and triumphant events that shaped our world. They will get to know God’s created wonders that have a key place in the sweep of history. They will get an up-close look at landmarks made by creative people in many times and places. Course Description: Join us for some hands-on science as we dig into Apologia General Science! General Science is an engaging and comprehensive overview of Geology, Paleontology, Archeology, the Fossil Record, the Scientific Method, Applied Sciences, Biology, Anatomy, and DNA designed to transition middle school students to the format and pace of upper-level science courses.

Course Description: Who wants to learn about Biology, including cells, microbes, animals, plant life and more? Who wants to do some dissections? Who wants to learn about earthquakes, the atmosphere, geology, weather and our solar system? Experiments? Yes! Fun? Yes! We will do all this, and more, in Rainbow Science, Year 2.
What is Rainbow Science? Rainbow Science is a 2 year, comprehensive science curriculum. Year 1 focuses on physics and chemistry, and Year 2 focuses on biology and a variety of applied science. Rainbow Science covers foundations of General Science, Earth Science, Life Science and Physical Science. The concise and easy to understand text is packed with lovely multi-color photographs and is written by an experienced teacher and homeschooling father. This curriculum will help students not only understand science, but also help prepare them for higher level high school sciences.
Our class time at SHEEP will focus on lab work. Work at home between class meetings will require students to do reading in the textbook and the exercises at the end of the reading sections in the text. Quizzes are also available at the publisher’s website for parents to administer at home if they choose. This is a great program with labs that are interesting and fun, and a text that is written in a clear, concise, and sometimes humorous manner. Textbook: When you purchase the textbook, The Rainbow, by Durrell Dobbins, PhD, you are purchasing a text that will be used both years. If you have already taken one year of Rainbow Science, you do not need to purchase another textbook.
Materials fees: Materials fees cover all the supplies needed for every lab for the entire year, as well as a lab notebook for each student. The instructor will purchase lab notebooks in bulk and distribute them to students on the first day of classes. Students usually work in groups of 2 or 3, so those materials will be shared, but each student will have his or her own lab notebook. Additionally, the instructor will host a frog dissection in the spring for those students who wish to participate, which will cost approximately $12. Monies for that will be collected separately, prior to ordering dissection materials.
Course Description: The lab class will cover the textbook concepts through labs, worksheets, and 2 major projects. One project is due before Christmas Break, and the other is due before Spring Break. Students will have the opportunity to learn to properly collect data during a laboratory experiment and write up scientific experiments. They will be required to keep a neat lab notebook. Assignments are to be turned in even if the student is absent.
Topics will include atoms, molecules, air, water, the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the lithosphere, weather, motion, forces in creation, sound, and light. The lab grade counts for 30% of the course grade.This grade is not to be used as their overall Physical Science course grade, since it will only reflect work done on the labs, not on reading and tests. Students are to read the modules in the textbook at home on the same schedule as the lab syllabus. Parents are responsible for grading all text work (tests, study guides, on-you-own questions) and textbook progress will be checked at the end of each semester.

Course Description: Mixed Media is a technique involving the use of two or more artistic medias, such as ink and pastel or painting and collage that are combined in a single composition. In Mixed Media class we will touch on different mediums of art, using different tools and materials, while experimenting with different techniques and styles of creating art. We will experiment with printmaking, paper marbling, collage, watercolors, pattern transfer, acrylic paint, alcohol inks, and more! We study different artists such as Piet Mondrian, Robin Mead, Jim Dine, Jen Aranyi, and Alma Woodsey Thomas as well as make many seasonal works of art. Course Description: Mid/Hi chorus is a class designed to help students fall in love with music while learning to sing in a group setting. We will learn the basics of vocal technique, such as proper breath control, support and posture, Italian vowels and open tone. Our goals will be to develop a habit of good vocal techniques, learning to follow the music, singing in parts as well as using dynamics and phrasing well. We will explore songs in foreign languages, classic pieces transcribed for students, sacred pieces and contemporary pieces. Students will also learn to work as a team, listening to each other vocally as they all sing. In Choral Society, our goal is to honor the Lord through singing. We will learn and work on singing techniques during our warm-up time then apply those to each piece we learn. Course Description: Did you know that American Sign Language (ASL) is the 3rd most popular language in the U.S.? ASL is a non-verbal form of communication used by the Deaf population and hearing population, as well. This course will provide students with a basic knowledge and understanding of ASL. Learning ASL involves hand movements, facial expressions, and body positioning. Classes will cover fingerspelling, vocabulary, facial expressions, grammar, dialogues, worksheets, storytelling (with books), activities and play games. ASL is fun, educational, and useful. Some work outside of class time will be expected. There will be no voice in the classroom.

Course Description: How do elections work? What does the President do all day? Who decides where stop signs go? What is Labor Day? Uncle Sam and You is a one-year civics course that answers these questions and many more. Designed for students in grades 6-8, lessons focus on America’s founding documents, branches of government, patriotic symbols, voting, the election process, Washington, D.C., the presidency, how Congress works, American holidays, and aspects of federal, state, and local government.
Course Objectives: Each full-color unit includes several short lessons to read that explains the topic to the student; chapters feature both modern and historical photographs and illustrations. Lessons conclude with a variety of subject-based activity ideas that relate to answering questions in the student handbook for each lesson the student reads that week. There are also supplemental activities in the book for each lesson, some weeks I will assign some of the supplemental activities, but you as the parent can also do them each week if you want more work.
Assignments/Quizzes/Exams Fifteen units are included in each text (Part 1 & 2), with four lessons in each unit. Depending on how many activities are assigned, students will need 45-90 minutes per lesson. However, the back of each book includes fifteen optional lessons on America’s patriotic holidays. If five lessons per week are desired, the holiday lessons can be used as a fifth lesson or for other occasions. A total of 150 lessons/30 weeks of lessons are provided. Students will read the text and complete student activities at home throughout the week. Thursday course work will include class lectures, activities, and group discussion. We will also have interactive, hands-on activities such as a class election, mock court trial and also meeting people from positions within the government/civics world.
There are opportunities for graded components of the course, should parents decide to monitor and notate completed work, but I will not be grading. We will go over the answers each week for the questions in the student workbook and then take the unit tests. We will also go over the answers to the test together, I will allow the student to self-grade unless you let me know otherwise for your student. The only grade I will provide is a participation grade for the year that you can compile with the tests from each week if you would like to assess a grade for your student for this class.

Course Description: The goal for this class is to give children the skills needed to study scripture. We will use Studying the Bible curriculum by Foundation Worldview. Among the many varied topics we will study themes of the Bible, how to read scripture in context, and what the are the different genres included. We will learn how to tell the difference between descriptive and prescriptive texts. The goal is to equip each student with the skills and the encouragement to study the Bible and seek God. The only grade I will provide is one based on participation.

Course Description: Christians often focus on equipping students to love Jesus and live like Him – both are essential components of the Christian life! Yet they frequently neglect to prepare students to think like Jesus. Let me and the Foundation Worldview curriculum fill in the gap. In this class we will learn the skills children need to biblically navigate challenging cultural issues. We will get to the root of the issues, showing kids how a biblical worldview lines up with reality in a way that no other worldview does. We will use Foundations Careful Thinking Curriculum to give the students the skills they need to see through faulty ideas and embrace the truth. We will be setting the children up to think critically in all areas of life. We will also learn some of fallacies using The Amazing Dr. Ransom's Bestiary of Adorable Fallacies. We will compare and contrast the key tenets of Atheism, Islam, and Pantheism to Christianity using some of Summit Ministries' Walking in the Truth Competing Worldview curriculum.

Girls will need to wear pink ballet tights, a pink or black leotard, a pink or black ballet skirt (pull-on elastic is best), and pink ballet shoes.
Boys will need to wear a white t-shirt tucked into black shorts, white socks, and black ballet shoes.

Course Descriptions: This class will be covering intermediate and advanced classical ballet positions, theory, and technique in the Vaganova Method of Ballet. Each class will learn ballet choreography to contemporary worship music.Students will also learn anatomy and kinesiology related to ballet and movement. The focus will be on worshiping God through the art of ballet. There will be a Spring Ballet Performance at the end of the school year. The materials fee covers the cost of the performance costumes.

Study Hall is a quiet place to study. Please be prepared to read a book if you do not have homework or studying to do. Electronics and games are not allowed. Your child must be able to sit quietly for 50 minutes. Food is allowed at the lunch hour of 12pm.
